Barolo Grill’s trip to Italy
Starting in 1995, owner Blair Taylor has taken his staff on an educational trip to Italy. The trip is a chance for the entire staff to experience and understand the foods and wines of Italy firsthand. When you dine at Barolo, the chefs have perfected their dishes under the advice of the best chefs in Italy, and your waiter has likely tasted the wine he recommmends in the cantina with the winemaker! Lasting approximately 2 weeks, the trip usually takes place the last week of June and the first week of July. However the trip for 2006 will take place the first and second week of April, giving the front of the house staff a chance to experience the Italian wine expo, Vinitaly.
The trip includes a stay in Piedmont, Tuscany and sometimes the Veneto, or even the far North province of Alto Adige.
In Piedmont, we stay in the town of Alba, with visits to the best Barolo and Barbaresco producers as well as the best restaurants in the region. Producers we have visited include Conterno Fantino, Giacomo Borgogno, Ceretto, E. Pira/Chiara Boschis, La Spinetta/Giorgo Ravetti, Pio Cesare, Gianni Gagliardo & Palladino, just to name a few. Restaurants visited include Borgo Antico and Belvedere.
